Back pain is the most common complaint seen by chiropractors, with most people suffering from back pain at some point in their lives. Chiropractic treatment, unlike painkillers, treats the cause of the problem rather than masking the symptoms. Our chiropractors will examine your full spine, not just the area of pain, to determine the root cause of your complaint.

Neck pain can be really debilitating. We can effectively treat a variety of problems ranging from suddenly being unable to turn your head without pain, to shoulder discomfort. Neck problems can refer pain to the shoulder blade, arm or hand, as well as leading to recurring headaches that can last for days. Injuries to the neck can cause a large array of symptoms ranging from dizziness and headaches to jaw pain. You may be one of many people who are developing poor posture and neck tension from long days at a desk. We can help get you comfortable and advise you on how to reverse this trend.

Headaches often arise from issues in the neck (cervicogenic). Headaches can emanate from muscles, joints, misalignments through the spine or even your TMJ (temporomandibular joint/jaw) – a thorough examination of your spine and joints will help us decide how chiropractic treatment can help you. Often treatment can serve to prevent migraines.

You may be suffering with TMJ (jaw) dysfunction if you are experiencing:

• clicking, popping or grinding noises when you move your jaw

Our chiropractors are trained in getting to the root cause of your jaw pain and headaches. Your TMJ and jaw muscles (as well as your spine) will be examined and assessed and may need to be treated. Often simple home exercises are given to help settle TMJ dysfunction following your treatment, as well as advice on lifestyle changes and stress management.

The most common sports injuries are ankle sprains, knee injuries, shoulder injuries, muscle spasms, achilles tendon issues, shin splints and back pain. After a sports injury of any kind, it is advisable to stop and rest until the injury has been examined and treated to avoid further damage.

If you have an injury that is preventing you from playing your sport, come see us. If you want to return to that sport but minimise the risk of reinjury we can help you get out of pain, rehabilitate and try to get your body functioning better to avoid reinjury.

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is a repetitive strain type of injury to the elbow and can involve the wrist too. It often responds well to chiropractic treatment combined with medical acupuncture. Other types of elbow pain are often a result of musculoskeletal conditions of the back and neck. You will be examined to see where your elbow pain originates. If it is aggravated by your neck or mid-back, we will treat that area too and give you exercises to stop the area from functioning incorrectly to help prevent the issue from recurring.

Whether a sports injury, alignment related, arthritic or other knee problem, we can administer the correct soft-tissue and joint therapies to get you back on track. We’ll also look at your knee function and muscle balance in relation to your feet, ankles, hips and spine to ensure you are given the correct exercises you need to keep your knees functioning optimally. Often knee pain without an injury can be linked to your spinal alignment and gait pattern, both of which will be assessed by your chiropractor.

Your full spine as well as your extremity joints will be assessed; you may require adjustments at you hand, wrist, elbow or even your fingers!

The shoulder is a complex joint (the most mobile in the body). Injuries to the rotator cuff, joint itself or conditions such as frozen shoulder require the right combination of treatment and expert rehabilitation to restore function and reduce the risk of reinjury. Shoulder problems can also be related to the surrounding joints such as the neck, shoulder blade, clavicle or elbow, or simply relate to poor posture. We’ll aim to help restore your shoulder back to full function so it can last for years to come.

Nerve irritation from the lower lumbar spine and/or muscular spasm and irritation can produce buttock pain, leg pain, tingling/numbness or weakness. We will thoroughly examine you to find out why you have the pain and work out the best course of treatment to help relieve your discomfort.

Sciatica is irritation of the sciatic nerve, which supplies a specific area of the leg; the muscles down the back of the leg and into the little toe of your foot. There are other nerves in the leg that, if irritated can give pain in differing areas of the leg too. You may also be experiencing leg pain if you have muscle imbalances. We need to examine you to ascertain if it is nerve pain, for example, a disc herniation or trapped nerve, or muscular referred pain and where it is coming from before we start to treat you.

Back pain in pregnancy is extremely common. Pregnancy associated low back pain is most commonly caused by instability and dysfunction of the pelvic joints. This often occurs because of the mechanical and hormonal changes your body faces throughout this exciting time. Mechanically, as your bump grows, you will probably notice an increase in the curve in your low back. This is due to the increased weight and size of your baby pulling your centre of gravity forwards. The resultant effect of this is an exaggerated demand on the joints, ligaments and muscles of your spine and pelvis. At the same time, your body is producing and releasing a cocktail of hormones (predominantly relaxin, estrogen and progesterone) which cause the body’s ligaments and joint capsules to loosen making them more vulnerable to minor trauma. The combination of these 2 factors can lead to the development of dysfunction and pain as your body tries to adapt and manage these changes.

Chiropractic treatment aims to help keep you as comfortable as possible. We have a specialist pregnancy cushion allowing you to lie comfortably on your front during treatment. Treatment is gentle and often involves light spinal adjustments and gentle muscle release techniques. Chiropractors are also trained in treating infants and babies.

Osteoarthritis is usually considered a normal part of the ageing process. Simply put, it means wear and tear. A great deal of the pain of osteoarthritis originates from the structures around the joints. We aim to maximise your movement, correct faulty movement patterns and help to relieve and control the discomfort. We cannot alter any degenerative changes that have already taken place, but we can improve your movement patterns and give you exercises to improve the strength of the muscles around the joint affected and this can significantly help you to manage your condition.

Chiropractors are trained to diagnose and treat the root cause of your foot pain. We will analyse your gait pattern and assess your spinal alignment, as well as examine the muscles and joints of your foot and ankle. We will look at the mechanics of your foot which can be improved with foot and ankle adjustments, stretching and strengthening exercises. When needed orthotic insoles can be fitted onsite by your chiropractor.
